Highbury House is an Islington townhouse renovated to plans by architecture and design practice Timothy Smith & Jonathan Taylor LLP and features Factorylux cage lighting.
The practice is based in Bermondsey in south London and Timothy & Jonathan also teach at architectural schools in the UK. The project involved extending the house upwards to create an additional bedroom and bathroom, and opening up the rear of the house to the garden. The overall approach was modern architecture with traditional virtues.
A variety of Factorylux lighting was specified for the project. The extension and garden room features a collection of Factorylux light bulb cages, all wired using braided fabric lighting cable and antique bronze hooked light bulb holders.
Complete ready-to-install light fittings using the bulb cages can be specified using the Factorylux Custom Lighting - pendant light configurator. The light bulb cages are available in four styles (small and large balloon, long tube and open) and a range of powder coated colours and powder coated colours.
The house itself is late Victorian and the period character of the stairwell is maintained by the use of the Factorylux classic Maria Wall Lights, available in vintage brass, antique bronze and retro silver finishes. As with the pendant lights, the wall lights are made, tested and certified to BS EN 60598 at the Factorylux HQ in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.
