Kitchen Pendant Lighting | Factorylux for Kew House by Piercy & Company
Kew House, designed by Piercy & Company and the owners Jo and Tim Lucas, achieves the feat of being strikingly original while sitting perfectly comfortably in its environment. The won both a RIBA London and RIBA National Award in 2015 and features Factorylux kitchen pendant lighting. The main wing of the home borders a residential side street in Kew, south-west London, and incorporates the ground floor and gable-end of an old stable building. Above the London stock brick gable and side wall rises a steel superstructure which forms the first floor and a steeply pitched roof. The structure is made from welded steel plates which have rusted to an autumnal red-orange-brown. Windows and skylights are set into the steel and, in a hint to Islamic latticework, there are areas where the steelwork is perforated with irregular patterns. Kew House front elevation The first wing is connected to a similarly proportioned but smaller second wing - made from the same weathered steel - by a glass link containing a stairwell. The narrowness of the link, the height of the second wing and that both are set back from the street reduce the impact of the building and create a secluded courtyard. The perforations in the steel are present on the second wing and the fence and gate facing the road. They are manifestly successful in uniting the different elements, breaking up the large areas of weathered steel and creating patterns of light both inside and outside. kitchen pendant lighting at Kew House The sleek and understated interior combines a light palette of materials - both wood and paintwork - with exposed brickwork and red oxide steelwork. The Factorylux kitchen pendant lighting over the island perfectly complements the design - a pair of white enamel Coolicon shades, white ceiling roses and burgundy red braided fabric cable. All the light fittings are available separately as components or as complete ready-to-install kitchen pendant lighting using the Factorylux Made For You pendant light configurator. When you've configured the perfect pendant light for your room or space, it's built by a skilled technician at our UK production HQ, tested and certified to BS EN 60598 and dispatched for next working day delivery. The pendants come with all necessary fixings and fittings plus instructions for safe and simple installation. The spare simplicity of the glass link is maintained by bare bulb pendant lights featuring the striking Factorylux long tube filament light bulbs. Kew House is home to Jo and Tim Lucas, management consultant and structural engineer respectively, who played a major role in designing the building as well as project managing the construction. Jo and Tim chose Factorylux lighting because they "liked the combination of the traditional look with modern technology and quality.” Kew House steel rooves Kew House kitchen and dining room Images courtesy of and copyright Jack Hobhouse.
