Light Collective + Factorylux + Xicato | Clerkenwell Design Week Party

Guest post by Light Collective. UPDATE: The Clerkenwell Design Week part was a huge success. Read more and see the photos here.
Original post: Light Collective are excited to be collaborating with our friends from Factorylux and Prelogram for Clerkenwell Design Week. The main event is a party for the UK's lighting design community to celebrate the Natural Light in Architecture cards which have been included with mondo*arc and darc magazines. We're completely taking over the 'Look Mum No Hands!' bike repair shop/cafe/bar at 49 Old Street for CDW and the party kicks off at 4pm on Wednesday 20 May 2015. We (Martin and Sharon) are running the bar with help from the Factorylux team, serving great beer and still nicer Mojitos. Natural Light in Architecture postcards Factorylux gave us the opportunity to collaborate on the Natural Light in Architecture cards back in July 2014 and from August 2014 individually numbered cards have been included in every copy of the architectural and decorative lighting magazines Mondo*arc and darc. The first card was a bold red image of the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York city and the series has worked through the spectrum of visible light and great architecture from around the world and throughout human history. The most recent card was an image of the Camino Real in Mexico City in violet. The tenth and final card is a closely guarded secret but it's an amazing image of a stunning and publicly accessible piece of architecture - chosen by a reader of mondo*arc - which opened late last year. The series of cards is far more impressive than we could have hoped. The response has been amazing and, ever quick to meet demand, Factorylux has re-imagined the the best five images in the series as limited edition prints which are perfect for home and office. The prints are being unveiled for the first time at Clerkenwell. The Prelogram team responsible for printing the cards are installing and running a linotype hot metal typesetting machine for CDW. Linotypes were last seen and heard 30 years ago and half a mile away at the Guardian's old offices on Farringdon Road. It's a once in a generation chance to see linotype back in action in EC1. If great prints, hot metal and cool drinks aren’t enough, Factorylux is also be unveiling new products that combine state of the art Xicato lighting modules with Factorylux trademark industrial chic. Look Mum No Hands is the first commercial installation of the prototypes and the Factorylux team will be looking for some feedback and development ideas from the knowledgeable crowd to shape future products. Check back in a few weeks time for a review of the CDW events.
