As temperatures in the UK continue to soar, lots of us are looking a little closer to home for that summer vacation. So long Sicily. Maybe next time Magaluf. This summer, we’re staying put. But that doesn’t mean a downgrade. We’ve put together our top 5 staycation destinations sure to make a big impression.
Hinterland Cabin – Conwy, Wales
Seated on the border of Snowdonia national park, Hinterland cabin makes a great base camp for outdoor types. The cabin, constructed from Conwy line sleepers and clad in locally sourced slate, sleeps two in total comfort. Our favourite part? The Jacuzzi and accompanying mountain views, total sensory satisfaction.
Guinevere – Surrey, England
If a cabin feels a little too cosy, Guinevere might be just the thing. Set in 32 acres of stately grandeur, this 16th-century manor house sleeps up to 10 guests; great for big families or holiday shares. With stunning views over the Surrey hills (an official Area Of Natural Beauty), Guinevere is a great retreat for those looking to escape the big city for a well-earned rest. Explore the grounds, take a boat around the lake or (our personal choice), kick back in quite possibly the grandest indoor pool we’ve ever seen.
Serpentine – Portwrinkle, Cornwall
Moving from countryside to coast, our next pick takes us to Portwrinkle Cornwall. The sculpted Serpentine property winds along the natural curvatures of the clifftop landscape. Reminiscent of the organic architecture championed by Frank Lloyd Wright, this modern eco-design blends with its location whilst maximising its impact. The expansive glass front, which curves around a generous living space, affords unhindered sea views. With Whitsand bay in striking distance and countless nearby coves to discover, Serpentine makes a killer base for beach lovers.
Castle Trinity – Holywell Green, Yorkshire
A little closer to home (for us anyway), Castle Trinity in Yorkshire offers luxury on a massive scale. I mean, it’s an actual castle. Set within 12-acres of stately gardens, the castle sleeps 10 and comes with the obligatory indoor pool. If 12-acres isn’t enough, the nearby Peak District is awash with moorland, forests and picturesque villages to explore. We just love the idea of ruling our very own castle for a week…or at least playing court jester.
The Limit – Holywell Bay, Cornwall
If a Yorkshire castle is a bit much, perhaps a Cornish beach hut would be more your speed. Located just minutes from nearby Holywell beach, The Limit offers accommodation for two in the form of a 1930’s beach hut. Fully modernised, The Limit has all mod-cons including a hot tub with views over the dunes. For adventurous types, wait for low-tide and explore the nearby cave in Holywell Bay, just take a torch and mind your head. For us, land-locked in West Yorkshire, The Limit looks a world away.
