Treasure Island at the National Theatre | Factorylux lighting
Shiver my timbers! Treasure Island is being brought to life in a new adaptation at the National Theatre by playwright Bryony Lavery. Robert Louis Stevenson's novel about the adventures of Jim Hawkins - a coming of age story of treachery and treasure - is on stage from early December 2014 to April 2015. Long John Silver First published in the 1880s, Treasure Island has been enthusiastically received in words, on the stage and in film by generations of boys, girls and grown-ups. The story, largely told in the first person, tells of Jim Hawkin's discovery of a treasure map, and his adventure as a cabin boy on board the Hispaniola and the murderous events on Treasure Island itself. It's a classic bildungsroman, charting Jim's development from innocent youth to adulthood and his experiences of friendship, bravery and honour. When lighting designer Bruno Poet got in touch to ask us to provide the lighting for Treasure Island, we jumped at the chance. Back in 2011, Factorylux provided the lighting for the National's production of Frankenstein starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. Bruno won the 2012 Olivier Award for Best Lighting Design for Frankenstein. We interviewed Bruno for our blog earlier this year and he's a pleasure to work with. Factorylux has provided the lighting team with 450 plugs, 100s of metres of black cable and 200 filament light bulbs. The lighting is destined to create the night sky above the Hispaniola and Treasure Island, and we can't wait to see Bruno's design. To celebrate Factorylux lighting Treasure Island, we're giving away tickets for customers throughout the run. The next draw is on Friday 19 December 2014 at 10 am. We've got 14 to give away from now until the end of March!
