The renovation of a Grade II* listed farmhouse was featured in May issue of House & Garden. Factorylux black enamel shades are used in several rooms of the house.
Slackwood Farmhouse is in Silverdale, north Lancashire and the home of Angela and Adrian Waddingham. It largely dates from 1713 and the Historic England listing records it as being of architectural significance for being an unusually early deep double-pile - two rows of rooms - house with gable stacks and chamfered mullioned windows. Slackwood Farmhouse appears in architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner's 'The Buildings of England' and is described as having 'mean windows'. An archeological infrared scan showed that additional windows had been bricked up and these were reopened as part of the renovation.
The renovation of the house and the addition of glazed extensions was overseen by architect Paul Archer. Factorylux gloss black 360mm enamel shades are used to light both the traditional farmhouse kitchen - exposed beams and Aga in the high stone fireplace - and the glazed dining room which links the house to the contemporary curved glass and zinc garden room. The use of the enamel shades demonstrates their versatility - they complement both the strikingly modern and comfortably ancient look in both rooms of the house. The exterior of the shades is a deep glassy black (RAL 9011 Graphite Black) vitreous enamel and this timeless finish contributes to resourcefulness of the shades.
