Work has recently been completed on the restoration of Block C at Bletchley Park, World War Two home of the UK's codebreaking operations. Block C now houses the visitors centre and introductory exhibitions and features Factorylux vintage industrial lighting products.
Block C at Bletchley park was built in 1941 to house the Hollerith punch-card machines which were used to process data from the German Enigma codes. The building was Grade II listed in 2012 because of its historical significance - its role in the development and use of machinery for mass data processing. The utilitarian structure is a steel framed 'spider block' single storey building. The walls of the main connecting corridor and the wings which project from it are of brick with reinforced a cambered concrete slab roofs covered in asphalt.
By the time restoration of the building started in 2013, there were trees growing through the roofs. The restoration included removing the post-war alterations and some painstaking restoration of the wartime features including the acoustic ceiling tiles, radiators, Crittall windows and granolithic floor.
