The team at Urban Cottage Industries has been working hard [sic] to produce a number of offbeat curiosities for a new limited edition collection. The range will feature a number of unique luminaires, all set for release over the coming months. Bespoke by design, application or finish, the fixtures you’ll find here are something out of the ordinary.

Introducing Beryl

Our first limited edition design see’s the much loved industrial pendant receive a striking makeover. Offered in either uniform white or matt black, the pendants feature a number of custom touches. Traditional lighting chain makes way for distinctive, specially modified and powder coated, bike chain. Elsewhere, other components have also received the tailor-made treatment. The gallery, shade guard and hooked pattress have all been coated, in black or white, so as to lend a seamless appearance.The Beryl Pendant Shown in both all White and all BlackEach pendant, offered fully assembled, features;

  • One metre of coated, modified, bike chain in either black or white
  • Hooked lighting pattress
  • Metal E27 (ES, standard screw) lamp holder
  • One metre of lighting flex, in either jet black or antique white
  • Eco-LED dimmable lamp

Bringing enough visual flair to be a standalone fixture: Beryl would make an excellent general or accent lighting addition.

The Name Game

Urban Cottage Industries is celebrating the outstanding contribution of women throughout history. Countless women across engineering, design, sport, health and more, have had an inestimable impact on the world at large. Henceforth, each new product released will be named in honour of an extraordinary woman who flew in the face of prejudice and achieved the incredible.

True Grit

So with a fresh focus on successful women, cycling superpower and local lass Beryl Burton seemed a great place to start. After overcoming a difficult childhood, mired with illness and infirmity, Beryl made a name for herself as a force to be reckoned with. Favouring the draining time trial discipline, Beryl enjoyed over a century of dominance racking up the records and the results.
